Reba McEntire Reflects on Her Dramatic Birth Story and Birthday Gratitude
As Reba McEntire marked her 70th birthday, she took a moment to share a heartfelt reflection on her birth story and the incredible mother who raised her. In an emotional Instagram post, Reba reminisced about the challenges her mother, Alice, faced before bringing her into the world.
“The first thing I thought of this morning was I’m so glad Mama feels better today than she did 70 years ago. I’m also glad she kept me.”
Reba, the third of four children, recalled the chaotic night in March 1955 when her mother’s water broke but she didn’t rush to the hospital. With two young kids already causing mayhem, Alice’s exhaustion led her to change her nightgown and go back to sleep! When the labor pains grew more intense, Reba’s father drove her mother to the hospital in McAlester, where doctors had to turn Reba around as she was in a breech position. Reba’s birth was a dry, breech delivery with only gas to ease her mother’s pain.
“After all that, she kept me. So glad she did…” Reba reflected. “God blessed me with the best family and the best aunts, uncles, and cousins a kid could ever wish for!”
Reba ended her post with a heartfelt thank you to everyone who had sent birthday wishes and love, expressing her deep gratitude for the amazing people who have enriched her life.
“I love you with all my heart! You have made my life better, more fun and have enriched my life beyond my wildest imagination.”
In addition to celebrating her birthday, Reba has always shared a deep bond with her mother. After Alice’s passing in 2020, Reba struggled with grief and even considered walking away from her music career, as her mother had been her biggest inspiration.
“I didn’t want to sing anymore. Mama was the one that inspired us kids… she was our biggest cheerleader,” Reba recalled.
However, Reba’s love for music never faded. Today, before every performance, she turns to prayer, asking for divine guidance.
“I ask the Holy Spirit to walk for me, talk for me, speak for me and sing for me.”
Her deep faith gives her the strength and confidence to step on stage and connect with fans. Reba McEntire continues to inspire with her incredible talent, resilience, and unwavering faith.
