“She Almost Slept Through My Birth!” — Reba McEntire’s 70th Birthday Story Has Everyone Smiling
Country music legend Reba McEntire just turned 70, and to mark the occasion, she didn’t post a red carpet flashback or a glamorous photo shoot. Instead, she did something even better — she took fans all the way back to day one, sharing the hilarious and heartfelt story of how she almost didn’t make it into the world… at least not right away.
“The first thing I thought of this morning was: I’m so glad Mama feels better today than she did 70 years ago,” Reba wrote in an emotional Instagram caption alongside a baby photo of herself.
“I’m also glad she kept me.”
Born on March 28, 1955, Reba is the third of four kids. Back then, her mom, Jacqueline (who already had her hands full with two toddlers), was so exhausted when her water broke… she simply changed her nightgown and went back to sleep.
Yes, really.
Eventually, the labor pains kicked in harder and Reba’s dad rushed her mom to the hospital. But even then, it wasn’t smooth sailing. Baby Reba was breach, and the doctor had to turn her around manually — with no epidural, just gas to help her mom get through it.
“After all that… she kept me. So glad she did,” Reba joked.
Two and a half years later, her younger sister Susie arrived, completing what Reba calls the “Fearsome Foursome.”
❤️ Grateful for the Chaos — and the Family That Built Her
Reflecting on her childhood and her milestone birthday, Reba said it best:
“God blessed me with the best family and the best aunts, uncles, and cousins a kid could ever wish for… I’m so grateful and thankful to God and my Angels for continuing to guide, direct, protect, and give me my marching orders.”
Fans flooded her post with birthday wishes, reminding her just how loved she is:
“You’ve made my life more fun, full of adventures, laughter, music, happiness and friendship,” wrote Melissa Peterman, Reba’s Happy’s Place co-star.
“I can’t believe you’re 70 — you look like you’re 40!” one fan gushed.
Another chimed in with: “Happy Birthday, Mama Mac! May your day be filled with new memories and tons of love.”
🎂 One thing’s for sure — whether she’s making us laugh, cry, or sing along to her classics, Reba McEntire is a once-in-a-generation icon. And thankfully, her mama didn’t sleep through the whole thing.
